Once upon a time there was a breeding program in East Texas, devoted to producing the best Polish Arabian horses possible. This was Casa Cassel Arabians, owned by Joe B and Martha Ann Cassel. Those of you who are familiar with Arabian breeding, specifically Polish, will know who they are. They were so successful that the people at Janow Poldaski Stud in Poland granted them the title of "Little Poland in East Texas."
I was granted the honor of managing Casa Cassel Arabians for 10 years in the 1980s. I swore that I would never own another horse unless it could be a Cassel bred Arabian. In 2003 the Universe smiled on me, and I was able to purchase Cassel’s Brenn, my sweet gelding. One thing led to another, and I also had Cassel’s Brazos, a stallion.
Well, ya got a stallion, ya gotta have mares!!
I asked Joe to put together a package of 3 mares, and to my amazement, he offered me Cassel’s Brumyra, Bint Czina, and Bint Roanne. I was pole-axed! These are three mares he always swore he would never sell to anybody!!! I was reduced to tears.
At this point reality hit, and I had to find new digs. Found a great place in the little hamlet of Penrose, Colorado. Not much land but a great barn and absolutely awesome views of Colorado Mountains.
Joe and Martha Ann granted me the enormous privilege of using the Cassel name as part of my farm name, thus Cassel Mountain Arabians.
Then I had the opportunity to buy three more mares, Cassels Zelsta, JM Jons Brueva, and Cassel’s Hana, and another stallion, Cassel’s Alaric. With the addition of these darlings, I’ll have the opportunity to carry on the line.
My goal in this enterprise is to carry on the Cassel legacy, breeding the best of the line to the best of the line. I would like to invite you to join with me in this journey.
